Police Respond to Armed Man Report at University of Manitoba

Authorities urge public to steer clear of the Allen Building as search efforts continue.

Winnipeg police received reports of a man armed with a large kitchen knife at the University of Manitoba's Fort Garry campus early Tuesday morning.
A student made a 911 call around 6:30 a.m. after allegedly seeing the suspect in the Allen Building, which is a physics laboratory currently unoccupied by students.
Police have locked down the Allen Building and are searching the area, including its underground corridors, with tactical and canine units on site.
Authorities have not confirmed if the suspect remains in the building and have issued a public advisory for people to avoid the area.
No injuries have been reported, and the police are asking anyone who sees the individual to call 911 and leave the area if safe to do so.
