Police Rescue Over 200 Wild Animals From La Plata Home

Authorities have launched a judicial inquiry under animal cruelty and wildlife protection laws to oversee the rehabilitation of the rescued animals at Bioparque Temaikén.

  • Police Ecológica raided a San Carlos neighborhood property after Fundación Planeta Vivo filed a complaint and discovered more than 200 animals in dire sanitary conditions.
  • Rescued species included seven tortoises, four parrots, two titi monkeys and about 200 birds, and investigators also uncovered remains of dead turtles, chickens and birds on site.
  • Health authorities warned of disease transmission risks among species and to humans, prompting an immediate transfer of survivors to Bioparque Temaikén in Escobar for quarantine and veterinary care.
  • The investigation is being handled by Unidad Funcional de Instrucción N° 6 and Juzgado de Garantías N° 4, with no suspect identities or charges released so far.
  • This operation forms part of a wider crackdown on illegal wildlife exploitation and private captivity rings carried out by federal and provincial agencies since 2024.
