Police Rescue 34 Women and Detain Three in Siliguri Human Trafficking Operation

Authorities are verifying seized job offer letters to support their probe into an organised network relocating young women from tea garden communities via Jharkhand to Tamil Nadu.

  • On July 27 the Pradhan Nagar Police intercepted a Ranchi-bound bus near Siliguri and rescued 34 women who had been lured by fake job offers.
  • Three suspects — Gautam Roy, Petrous Beg and Joyshree Pal — were detained after inconsistencies emerged in their statements.
  • Officers seized purported offer letters from garment factories and other recruitment documents that are now undergoing verification.
  • The women, predominantly from Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Darjeeling tea garden districts, have been safely reunited with their families.
  • Investigators are probing an interstate trafficking chain that moves victims through Jharkhand onto trains bound for Tamil Nadu, following the July 22 rescue of 56 women at New Jalpaiguri station.
