Overview
- A 24-year-old man was seriously assaulted on Gascoyne Road near Bradstock Road in Hackney shortly after England’s World Cup game with Norway on 12 July, and he was taken to hospital with severe head injuries.
- Officers say the attack followed an altercation between the victim and a group of men and that one person then assaulted the victim, leaving him in a serious condition.
- The Metropolitan Police on 22 July released a photo of a white man in his 20s or 30s with light brown hair wearing a blue and white England shirt with a navy collar and asked anyone who recognises him to come forward.
- Detective Sergeant Steve Rafferty, who is leading the inquiry, said officers have analysed CCTV and spoken to witnesses as enquiries continue and stressed the image may identify someone with important information rather than necessarily naming a suspect.
- No arrests have been made and police are urging anyone who was in the Gascoyne Road area in the early hours of 12 July to contact the Met on 101 quoting reference CAD 600/12JUL or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
