Overview
- Victoria Police published vision of a red Mazda 121 that ran a red light at Mornington on October 3, narrowly missing five people at the Main Street–Nepean Highway crossing about 10:30pm.
- The pedestrians were not injured, with police saying the car missed them by inches and by roughly half a second, and some in the group may have recorded the vehicle on their phones.
- The vehicle was recorded at 93 km/h in a 70 km/h zone, and a sergeant said the signal had been red for 33 seconds before the car entered the intersection.
- The Mazda continued south toward Dromana, with media reporting the registration as 1WG 6OE or 1WG60E, and police have not yet identified the driver while speaking with the registered owner.
- Detectives are seeking witnesses and dashcam or phone footage, and say potential charges under consideration include reckless conduct endangering serious injury or life.
