Overview

• Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police released multiple 911 recordings from the Aug. 22 stabbing that capture panicked reports, efforts to stanch bleeding, and fears the victim had no pulse.
• Callers described the attack as unprovoked and gave details of the suspect’s appearance and location on an opposite platform, helping officers make a same-night arrest.
• Previously released transit surveillance video shows the stabbing aboard the Lynx Blue Line; an affidavit says Zarutska was stabbed three times and pronounced dead on the train.
• Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, is charged with first-degree murder in state court and with causing death on a mass transportation system in federal court, a death-penalty-eligible offense, and he has not entered a plea.
• A Mecklenburg County grand jury indicted Brown in September; he remains jailed as a judge ordered a competency evaluation, with the case scheduled to return to court in October.
