Police Recover Body Off Bude Believed to Be Missing Chef Alexander Key

Police say formal identification is pending as the case proceeds to the coroner.

Overview

  • Officers and HM Coastguard were called to the water at Bude around 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 31, where a man was found deceased at the scene.
  • Devon and Cornwall Police believe the body is that of 37-year-old Alexander Key, who was reported missing on Jan. 24, though confirmation is still outstanding.
  • The death is not being treated as suspicious, and police say a file will be prepared for the coroner with an autopsy expected.
  • Mr. Key’s family thanked police, HM Coastguard and all who assisted in the search, and requested privacy.
  • Key, a chef and co-owner of The Rocket Store in Boscastle, was last seen on CCTV leaving the Cobweb Inn and later walking toward Boscastle Harbour near the River Valency.
