Overview
- On June 20, a 73-year-old passenger on the Indore–Daund Express discovered her bag containing diamond and gold jewellery and ₹50,000 in cash was missing as the train approached Lonavala.
- The woman alerted the Indian Railways helpline 139 and an FIR was filed at the Lonavala Government Railway Police station.
- Joint teams from the Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police and Local Crime Branch scanned CCTV from 18 stations along the route to identify a suspicious individual.
- Authorities identified the suspect as habitual offender Mahesh Arun Ghag alias Vicky and arrested him in Chiplun, Maharashtra, within 48 hours of the crime.
