Police Probe Twin Co-op ATM Ram-Raids in Staffordshire and Hampshire

Detectives seek public footage to identify suspects who used heavy vehicles to remove cash machines.

Overview

  • At 3am on January 9 in Kidsgrove, a stolen JCB telehandler was used to rip out the Co-op’s ATM, with two suspects arriving in a white van and a silver VW Golf.
  • Staffordshire Police seized the JCB left at the Cedar Avenue scene and requested a structural engineer as forensic work continued.
  • The Kidsgrove Co-op reopened on January 10 after damage assessments following the overnight break-in.
  • Around 5:17am on January 10 in Chandler’s Ford, a 4x4 forced entry to a Co-op and an ATM was stolen and later recovered on Brownhill Road.
  • Hampshire Police recovered a damaged black Opel at the scene but said it was not used in the raid, and Staffordshire Police have not confirmed any link to two burnt-out vehicles found at Apedale Country Park.
