Overview

• In Saitama City, a 15-year-old junior-high student died after a right-turning wagon struck her in a crosswalk at a signalized intersection on Sept. 20 around 7:05 p.m., and police said both pedestrian and vehicle signals were green.
• Driver Narita Shigemi, 47, was arrested at the scene in Saitama, admitted the allegation, and the investigation has been reclassified to negligent driving resulting in death.
• In Kanagawa’s Oiso on Sept. 21 at about 4:40 p.m., a 34-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a Kanachu route bus, and police arrested driver Tanaka Toshiyuki, 61, on suspicion of negligent driving causing injury.
• Oiso investigators said they will switch the charge to negligent driving resulting in death; the driver told police the motorcycle suddenly cut in front, the bus had no passengers, and Mainichi reports the company also had a fatal pedestrian accident in July.
• In Okinawa’s Chatan at 2:10 a.m. on Route 58, a right-turning car collided with an oncoming vehicle, leaving a 62-year-old passenger in cardiopulmonary arrest and a 33-year-old U.S. Marine driver injured but not in life-threatening condition as police investigate.
