Overview
- Plains Township Police say Good Shepherd Memorial Mausoleum was burglarized between Nov. 1 and Nov. 6, with two sets of remains removed from crypts.
- Investigators have not released the identities of the deceased and are asking anyone with information to call 570-829-3432 or 911.
- The township boarded up the structure after the discovery, following years of reported structural decay, toxic mold, pests and vandalism.
- The property was purchased at a 2005 tax sale by Lawrence Lee and Viktoriia Evstafieva, who later lost a lawsuit over the purchase and, per reports, now owe more than $66,000 in taxes.
- Officials say responsibility for upkeep lies with the private owners, and limited municipal authority has left families to relocate remains at their own expense.
