Police Probe Suspicious Death of Brazil’s ‘Human Barbie’ Found in São Paulo Home

Authorities are awaiting autopsy and toxicology results to determine the cause of death.

Overview

  • Military police and paramedics responded on Nov. 2 and, after more than nine minutes of CPR, a SAMU doctor pronounced 31-year-old Barbara Jankavski dead at about 9:07 p.m.
  • Officers noted a visible injury to her left eye, marks on her back, and that she was found wearing only underwear inside a residence in the Lapa/Siciliano area.
  • A 51-year-old public defender told police he paid for sexual services, said they used illicit substances, and reported she coughed several times before becoming unresponsive.
  • A woman who was present earlier told investigators she saw Jankavski slip and fall around 4 a.m., which she said caused the eye injury.
  • The case was registered as a suspicious sudden death and the body was sent to the medical examiner, as media highlight her history of roughly 27 cosmetic surgeries and renewed scrutiny of extreme aesthetic procedures.
