Overview

• The collision was reported about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at Seventh Street and Margo Avenue in Long Beach.
• Preliminary findings indicate a 2023 Tesla Model 3 and a dark-colored Subaru were weaving through traffic in a road rage incident, and police said speed and reckless driving appear to be contributing factors.
• The Tesla rear-ended a 2017 Mitsubishi Fuso box truck, forcing it through a brick sound wall and causing it to overturn.
• The truck’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and two passengers from the truck along with the Tesla driver were hospitalized.
• Investigators said the truck was carrying hazardous materials but none were released, identified the Tesla driver as a 31-year-old San Diego resident, and asked witnesses to contact Detective Ashley Van Holland or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
