• On May 25, Emiway Bantai’s official Bantai Records number received a message demanding ₹1 crore within 24 hours and threatening to kill the rapper if the ransom was not paid.
• The threater identified himself as Goldy Brar, a Canada-based associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, and also invoked the Lon group and US-based associate Rohit Godara.
• The extortion demand came a day after Bantai released ‘Tribute to Sidhu Moosewala’ on May 24, marking almost three years since the late Punjabi rapper’s murder.
• NRI Coastal Police registered an extortion case under sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Mumbai Crime Branch launched a parallel inquiry.
• Investigators are working to trace the sender’s mobile number and confirm the authenticity of the threat to identify those responsible.
