Police Order PSG–Lyon Match Moved to Monday

Police moved the fixture to free officers for planned nationwide demonstrations.

Overview

  • The Ligue de Football Professionnel said on Friday it had rescheduled PSG’s home game against Lyon for Monday 26 October at 20:30 after a Paris police prefecture order prohibited the match on its original Sunday date.
  • Paris police cited stretched resources as they prepare a large security deployment for weekend demonstrations and other events, a nationwide operation the interior minister said will involve about 70,000 personnel.
  • The change creates a scheduling clash with the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London and may prevent PSG players named on the shortlist from attending if they are selected in the matchday squad.
  • PSG coach Luis Enrique said the team accepts the move and is not distracted, while the rescheduling follows a week of violent protests around 17 October that prompted curfews, mass arrests and prior fixture changes.
  • Other French fixtures have already been shifted at authorities’ requests and the weekend also includes the NFL regular-season game at Stade de France, factors that together have forced policing priorities to take precedence over the football calendar.
