Police Officer Suspended for Contaminating Devotees' Food at Maha Kumbh 2025

A viral video showing an officer pouring ash into food at a community feast in Prayagraj has led to his suspension and an ongoing investigation.

Station House Officer (SHO) Brijesh Tiwari was suspended after a video showed him pouring ash into food prepared for devotees at a bhandara during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
The incident occurred near Bhavapur Toll Plaza Road, reportedly due to the officer's anger over the bhandara being organized without police permission.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kuldeep Singh ordered the suspension after an initial inquiry found the officer guilty, with further investigations underway.
The Uttar Pradesh government has also reinforced its policy prohibiting VIP privileges during major bathing days to ensure a fair experience for all pilgrims.
The Maha Kumbh Mela has seen other challenges, including a recent stampede at the Sangam area that left 30 dead and 60 injured, prompting enhanced safety measures.
