Police Make Multiple Arrests After Week of Street Violence in Greater Buenos Aires

Prosecutors now oversee the detentions stemming from the shootings, assault and robbery.

  • A 17-year-old was detained in Villa Galicia, Lomas de Zamora, accused of firing a shotgun that wounded an 18-year-old now in grave condition at Hospital Gandulfo and a 15-year-old who is out of danger.
  • Following that attack, neighbors tried to loot and burn the suspect’s home, seven officers were injured by stone-throwing, and police used blank rounds to disperse the crowd; the juvenile was placed under Unidad Fiscal Nº6 de Responsabilidad Penal Juvenil.
  • Police arrested a 40-year-old neighbor suspected of fatally shooting Antonio Ysmael López Colman, 29, after a dispute on September 12, with the homicide unit led by prosecutor Claudio Gabriel Fornaro handling the case.
  • A 31-year-old was captured by DDI investigators accused of attempting to kill Tomás Gabriel Farelo, 21, by throwing a concrete slab that struck his head and then shooting Farelo’s friend in the hand; Farelo remains hospitalized with severe cranial injuries.
  • Authorities also detained an 11-year fugitive wanted for the 2014 homicide of Julio Alberto Pucheta and arrested a 25-year-old motorcycle robbery suspect, seizing a 9mm Pietro Beretta and stolen phones during the latter capture.
