Police Link Wollert Laneway Killing to NSW Crime Syndicate, Release CCTV of Suspects

Detectives describe an undetermined motive complicated by the victim’s organised-crime links.

Overview

  • Victoria Police say intelligence indicates the July 31 shooting of 21-year-old Athan Boursinos was sanctioned by a New South Wales crime syndicate whose members travelled to Melbourne for the hit.
  • Investigators released CCTV images of two men and a white Volkswagen SUV believed to be involved and urged anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
  • Police say the offenders initially fled in a stolen Nissan Patrol, which was found burnt out in Reservoir less than half an hour after the shooting.
  • Detectives believe the men then used a stolen grey Volkswagen Golf found burnt out in Mickleham about two hours later before being picked up in a silver BMW sedan.
  • Boursinos had been identified in police intelligence as linked to a street crew tied to illicit tobacco figure Kazem Hamad and Ahmed Al Hamza, and he was due in court that morning on unrelated matters.
