Police Issue Bonfire Night Dispersal Orders Across Parts of Merseyside, Nottinghamshire and Bolton

The short-term measures give officers enhanced powers to move people on, escort youths home or arrest those who return.

Overview

  • Merseyside Police established 11 dispersal zones from November 5, with Knowsley areas running until November 7 and several Sefton, Southport and Formby zones in place through November 6.
  • Nottinghamshire Police imposed a same-day dispersal order in Beeston following reports of youth antisocial behaviour over the Halloween weekend.
  • Greater Manchester Police authorised a dispersal order in Halliwell, Bolton effective tonight until 8am on November 6, signed by Inspector Hibbert.
  • Under Section 35 powers, officers can direct people to leave designated areas, escort youths to parents and arrest anyone who returns after being told to leave.
  • Forces cite recurring Bonfire Night spikes in antisocial behaviour and fireworks misuse and are running Operation Banger and the # Bang Out Of Order campaign with fire services, urging parents to warn children and report incidents.
