Authorities have mobilized a specialized unit to investigate the incident after community leaders condemned the antisemitic vandalism

Overview

  • Two black swastikas were painted on Lingan Road opposite the Temple Sons of Israel cemetery in Sydney and were reported Wednesday morning before public works crews removed them by early afternoon.
  • The Cape Breton Regional Police and the Community Safety Enforcement Unit have opened an active investigation and scheduled extra patrols in the neighbourhood.
  • Mayor Cecil Clark and Police Chief Robert Walsh condemned the graffiti as an unacceptable expression of hate and pledged that such symbols will not be tolerated.
