Police Investigate Links Between Dortmund Hooligan Brawl and Gelsenkirchen Party Attack

Investigators are assessing possible ties to Schalke’s organized fan scene.

Overview

  • Police reported a mass fight near Dortmund on Saturday evening after two emergency brakes halted a Schalke return train, drawing about 300 Schalke fans, around 90 Borussia Dortmund supporters, and a few from 1. FC Köln into a forest brawl.
  • Officers seized gloves, box bandages, and ski masks, documented visible injuries, used a helicopter due to people on the tracks, and filed reports for dangerous interference with rail traffic, breach of the peace, and dangerous bodily harm.
  • In Gelsenkirchen-Rotthausen at 02:38, roughly 30 intruders forced into a Vereinsheim during a private party, smashed furniture, and assaulted guests as witnesses reported chants insulting Rot-Weiss Essen supporters.
  • Police say no one was injured in the Gelsenkirchen raid and have opened a Landfriedensbruch investigation while reviewing witness accounts of tattoos that could indicate involvement from Schalke’s organized fan scene.
  • Authorities are examining whether the same perpetrators were involved in both incidents, are seeking witnesses, and Gelsenkirchen police chief Tim Frommeyer publicly condemned the violence and vowed firm action.
