Overview

• The incident began shortly after 4.45 pm on Sunday when fire crews were alerted to a man found on the wrong side of the bridge rail on the M60 clockwise between junctions 8 and 9.
• Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue deployed two engines from Sale and Salford and a Technical Response Unit from Leigh alongside Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service.
• Highway authorities stopped traffic in both directions, holding motorists on the hard shoulder between junctions 6 and 7 to maintain a secure perimeter.
• Witnesses reported some drivers diverting onto the hard shoulder, blocking the route for responding emergency vehicles and slowing access to the bridge.
