Police Identify Suspect in Alleged 'Boa Noite, Cinderela' Attack on Canadian Tourist in Rio

Investigators say the man sought in the Oct. 26 Ipanema case already has an outstanding arrest warrant.

Overview

  • Cameron Golinsky, 35, reported that two men drugged him in Ipanema, robbed him and may have sexually assaulted him, and he says he awoke two days later disoriented and nude.
  • The case is recorded at the 12th Police Station in Copacabana as robbery with reduced consciousness due to a psychoactive substance.
  • Golinsky told police the assailants took about US$3,000 (roughly R$16,000) and his cellphone, with his device biometrics reportedly altered.
  • Police are reviewing building and area CCTV, and the station chief said one suspect has been identified and is being sought to serve a pending warrant.
  • After seeking help from the Canadian consulate, Golinsky received preventive medication, reported negative STI tests, traveled to Los Angeles to restore bank access, planned a trip to Vancouver, and posted safety advice to other tourists.
