Overview
- Michael Dickinson, 69, died after being pinned between his vehicle and the building at the McDonald’s drive-thru at 1317 W. 2nd St. in Grand Island on Dec. 23.
- Responders were dispatched at 10:23 a.m.; Dickinson was taken to CHI Health St. Francis, where he was pronounced dead.
- Police said he had opened his door to reach the payment window, and Division Chief Dean Elliott described the incident as "100% a freak accident."
- A McDonald’s employee who tried to help through the passenger side was injured and hospitalized, and is expected to recover.
- The Grand Island Police Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting the ongoing investigation, officers cleared the scene in about two hours, and the drive-thru stayed open.
