Police Identify Driver Killed in Newberry Township Head-On as I-83 Pileups Leave Five Injured

Investigators have pinpointed a passing attempt in the Newberry Township death, with state police still reconstructing the I-83 chain crashes.

  • PennDOT and local agencies closed sections of I-83 for hours, diverted traffic, and reported a secondary crash in the backlog that expanded the closure to exit 35.
  • Earlier that evening, a five-vehicle crash on Route 283 in Dauphin County left one man dead, with state police conducting a reconstruction of the scene.
