Overview
- An internal NPAS review found the Merseyside air crew acted appropriately during the 13 August pursuit near Carr Mill Dam after video showed the helicopter flying very low and disappearing behind trees.
- Chief Supt Fiona Gaffney said the crew lowered altitude intending to land, then aborted and climbed away in an accepted takeoff manoeuvre following a dynamic risk assessment.
- The Civil Aviation Authority said it is aware of the incident and will review the outcome and the processes followed.
- Merseyside Police said the motorbike was ridden in an extremely dangerous manner, with allegations of speeding, mounting pavements and a near miss with a pedestrian, as the crew tracked the suspect for over an hour.
- Police arrested a 33-year-old on multiple suspicions including dangerous driving and a 32-year-old on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and assisting an offender, with both released under investigation and the bike seized.
