Police acted preemptively after BJP planned a Secretariat siege over Hyderabad's civic failures.

Overview

  • Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao was detained by Moinabad police while traveling toward the Secretariat from Chevella.
  • Large contingents secured the Secretariat where some BJP workers who reached the gates were stopped and arrested after attempts to scale the entrance.
  • Many BJP corporators and senior leaders were placed under house arrest or taken into preventive custody to block their participation.
  • State vice-president NVSS Prabhakar and Vijayalakshmi, daughter of former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, were among those detained during marches toward the complex.
  • The party cited recent electrocution deaths in Ramanthapur, overflowing sewers, pothole-ridden roads, and water and power shortages as causes for the campaign, while Union MoS for Home Bandi Sanjay condemned the detention and sought an explanation from the state government.
