Police Expand Search for Missing Corrientes Rural Teacher

A large police search, including drones, dogs, raids, detentions, follows family concerns that she may have been lured to a nearby estancia.

Overview

  • Nanci Estela Godoy, 52, the sole teacher and director of Escuela Rural Nº 626 in El Malezal, has not been heard from since her last family contact on October 6 and was reported missing after relatives could not find her at the school.
  • Provincial forces have mounted an expanded operation with more than 80 officers, 16 vehicles, 12 horses, four drones and trained dogs to comb flooded monte and other hard-to-reach rural areas.
  • Investigators have carried out house raids and detained two people who were reportedly among the last to see Godoy while security-camera footage and other leads are under forensic review.
  • Family members told police that a worker on the route through estancia El Curupy did not show up for work and say they suspect Godoy was deceived and taken to an estancia; her son filed the formal missing-person report on October 15.
  • The case highlights the risks and access problems of rural schooling in Corrientes, and authorities say forensic searches and interrogations are next steps as the search continues and relatives press for more resources.
