Police Evacuate ICE Train in Gifhorn After Knife Threat

A 44-year-old man, already known to authorities, was detained after threatening train staff with a knife and claiming to have another dangerous item.

The ICE 541 train traveling from Cologne to Berlin was stopped and evacuated in Gifhorn, Lower Saxony, after a passenger threatened staff with a knife.
The suspect, a 44-year-old man, also claimed to possess another dangerous object, prompting police to conduct a thorough search of the train with sniffer dogs.
No injuries were reported, and all 340 passengers were safely evacuated and continued their journey using replacement buses and local trains.
The man, already known to police for prior incidents, had earlier threatened and insulted staff at Hannover Central Station over a dispute about bringing his bicycle aboard another train.
Authorities have launched multiple investigations, including charges of disturbing public peace through threats of violence.
