Police End Search in 20-Year-Old Case of Missing Berlin Journalist Without Results

Authorities conducted a major search in Berlin-Wannsee after a new tip about Alexander Luchterhandt's disappearance, but no evidence was found.

Alexander Luchterhandt, a journalist missing since May 2005, remains one of Berlin's most prominent cold cases.
A new tip received in December 2024 prompted authorities to search a property in Berlin-Wannsee using specialized teams and cadaver dogs.
The search, conducted by the Berlin State Criminal Police Office and Federal Criminal Police Office, began early Tuesday morning and concluded without any findings.
Officials stated it is unclear whether the lack of evidence is due to the passage of time or if there was nothing to uncover at the site.
The case continues to be reviewed periodically by Berlin's homicide division as part of their cold case investigations.
