Overview
- Yarely Ashley Hermosillo was a passenger at a Glendale red light late Aug. 15 when a single round fired from a nearby pickup entered her vehicle and fatally struck her, police said.
- Her partner drove her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead; her young son and her mother were in the back seat and were not injured, according to authorities.
- Glendale police arrested Jesus Preciado Dousten, 33, and charged him with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons and endangerment.
- An affidavit says Dousten argued with another driver, displayed a handgun, said a phrase in Spanish, then fired out his driver’s window; the bullet hit Hermosillo in the right eye.
- Detectives cited multi-camera footage, gas-station video and cellphone records in identifying Dousten, recovered two handguns during searches, and noted his prior criminal history as Hermosillo’s family held a press conference and launched a GoFundMe.
