Police Deploy Drones and Patrols to Intercept Street-Level Drug Sellers in Vigo and Port d’Alcúdia

Seized concealed stashes tracked by drone then uncovered in patrol stops highlight police efforts to curb open-air drug sales

  • On Aug. 9 a Policía Local drone from the Unidad Fénix unit tracked a suspect through O Marisquiño festival crowds for several minutes before guiding officers in to arrest him.
  • The 28-year-old man from Lugo was found carrying six types of drugs, including tusi, cocaine, hashish, MDMA and amphetamines, with evidence prepared for sale.
  • When officers moved in, the suspect attempted to remove an item from his genitals in an apparent bid to conceal contraband.
  • In Port d’Alcúdia Guardia Civil patrols pursued a vehicle performing evasive maneuvers and detained a 48-year-old driver operating without a valid licence.
  • A hidden double-bottom compartment in the stopped vehicle yielded a mixed cache of party drugs along with precision scales, unused zip bags and over €2,600 in cash.
