Police Confirm Maple Ridge Remains Are Those of Jessica Cunningham

Investigators now focus on establishing the events that led to her death.

  • IHIT said Monday that human remains discovered on Aug. 26 at a Gillis Place residence have been identified as 43-year-old Jessica Cunningham.
  • Cunningham’s partner, Mylie Barron, was arrested the day the remains were found and charged with indignity to human remains, and he remains in custody after interim bail was denied.
  • A bail hearing for Barron is scheduled for Sept. 26 in Port Coquitlam, and a publication ban will cover evidence at that proceeding.
  • Police said it is too early to determine whether the case involves intimate partner violence as investigators continue to build a timeline.
  • IHIT is working with the B.C. Coroners Service to establish the cause and circumstances of death, and friends held a vigil outside the Gillis Place home on Sunday.
