Overview
- Two builders uncovered a black plastic bag of bones on October 6 while clearing overgrowth to install a fence near St Wilfrid's Parish Church in Cantley, Doncaster.
- The discovery was made about three metres from the nearest grave off Church Lane, according to those at the site.
- South Yorkshire Police established a cordon and conducted searches after being alerted by the builders' employer.
- Early forensic analysis confirmed the remains are human and likely date back a number of decades.
- Detective Chief Inspector Simon Cartwright said the case is not being treated as suspicious and that officers will coordinate with the church to return the remains to a final resting place.
