Police Confirm Human Bones Found at Saunton Sands Beach

The find follows a separate recovery of human bone in Brixham last week.

Overview

  • Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called at 2.50pm on Saturday, 11 October, after bones were discovered on Saunton Sands in North Devon.
  • Part of the beach near a small sauna was taped off, with officers digging in the sand and using lighting to continue work after dark.
  • Police confirmed the remains are human and said a forensic archaeologist will examine them to determine their age.
  • A scene guard remained in place on Monday morning as items were recovered and enquiries continued at the beach.
  • Separately, police seized a carrier bag containing a human bone at Brixham’s Kings Quay on 9 October, with specialist testing and a distinct investigation ongoing; no link has been announced.
