Overview
- Durham Constabulary said the horsebox overturned just before 11am on Sunday on the southbound A19 between the A690 at Houghton-le-Spring and the A1018 at Seaham.
- Two horses were ejected in the crash; one died at the scene after being hit by a vehicle and the other was captured and secured by its owners.
- The North East Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulance crews, a rapid response paramedic and a clinical team leader.
- Two people were treated and discharged at the scene while two others refused treatment, with no serious injuries reported.
- One southbound lane was closed for just over an hour, causing delays of up to about 45 minutes, and all lanes reopened by around 1:30pm.
