Police Confirm Drug Charges Against Namewee After Kuala Lumpur Hotel Arrest

Police disclosures include ecstasy pills found and a preliminary positive urine screen.

  • Officers reported finding nine blue pills believed to be Ecstasy weighing about 5.12g, and an initial urine screen was positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.
  • Namewee was charged on Oct 24 under two provisions of Malaysia’s Dangerous Drugs Act, pleaded not guilty to possession and use, and was released on RM8,000 bail in total with local sureties.
  • The case is fixed for mention on Dec 18, while forensic and toxicology work on the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh found in a hotel bathtub on Oct 22 remains ongoing.
  • Namewee issued a Nov 2 Instagram statement denying drug use and any involvement in Hsieh’s death, saying he expects official reports to clarify the matter in the coming months.
