Overview
- Police closed the M27 in both directions between Junction 1 (A31) and Junction 2 (Ower) on Saturday while officers remained at the scene.
- Traffic services reported delays of roughly 20–29 minutes, with around two to three miles of congestion and average speeds falling to about 5mph in the worst-affected stretches.
- National Highways and traffic officers have signposted formal diversions: eastbound traffic leave at J1 via the A31 then the A36 to rejoin at J2 and westbound drivers follow the reverse via J2, A36 and A31 to J1.
- Vehicles trapped near the closure are being turned around from the back of queues and officers are directing traffic, with motorists urged to allow extra time or avoid the corridor.
- The M27 is a primary east–west route in Hampshire so the closure has pushed queues onto approach roads and drivers should check live traffic updates for changes and any official reopening notice.
