Police Cite Social Media as Las Vegas Woman Is Charged in Photoshoot Killing of Boyfriend

A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 2 as the defendant says she thought the gun was unloaded and the shooting was accidental.

Overview

  • Allysandra Blea, 20, is charged with open murder with a deadly weapon in the Aug. 23 death of 23-year-old Mark Gaughan in Las Vegas.
  • Police say Gaughan was photographing Blea posing with a firearm when it discharged during the early morning shoot, killing him at the scene.
  • Investigators recovered Polaroid images at the location, including one of Blea with a gun and another of a girl holding a knife, according to the arrest report.
  • Searches of Blea’s accounts found messages and photos reflecting a strong interest in guns and violent rhetoric, including a statement about shooting people and “getting away with it,” the report says.
  • A 911 caller said he had removed the magazine before handing over the gun, while his girlfriend later told police the magazine had been reinserted; Blea was arrested Aug. 26, booked into the Clark County Detention Center, and assigned a public defender at her initial court appearance.
