Overview

• Shortly after 11 am on July 2, officers located a car reported stolen overnight and began pursuing it on the A1027 westbound off the A19
• The stolen vehicle struck another car near Billingham, injuring four people who required hospital treatment
• North East Ambulance Service dispatched four double-crewed ambulances, a clinical team leader and Great North Air Ambulance support to evacuate three patients to North Tees and one to James Cook Hospital One male occupant of the stolen car was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and vehicle theft while a second man fled the scene and remains the subject of an active search
• The A1027 between the A19 and Wolviston Road/Bypass Road remains closed into the afternoon as two collision investigation units examine the crash site
