Police Charge 18, Seize 268kg of Drugs in Multi-State Syndicate Bust

Authorities say the syndicate relied on sea cargo concealments to run a coast-to-coast operation.

Overview

  • NSW Police, WA Police and the Australian Federal Police led the Strike Force Bloomfield probe, culminating in coordinated arrests across Sydney and Perth.
  • Seizures included 150kg of pseudoephedrine, 95kg of methylamphetamine, 21kg of ketamine, 2kg of cocaine, 14 firearms, chemical lab equipment and nearly $2.4 million in cash.
  • Detectives allege drugs were hidden in consignments such as shoes, plastic wares and wooden pallets, then moved across borders via domestic flights, drug mules and Australia Post.
  • Those charged in NSW were refused bail, WA suspects were remanded in custody and two Perth men are due in Perth Magistrates Court on November 17 with further appearances set through November and December.
  • Police executed about 30 search warrants between May and October, estimate the haul’s potential street value at about $60 million and say the operation’s supply chain and workforce have been dismantled.
