Overview
- The Bhoiwada (Bhiwandi) police traced the operation to Room No. 4 at Royal Palms in Aarey, Goregaon, and arrested 10 men who were produced in court and remanded to police custody.
- The raid, which police carried out on Thursday, recovered about 32 mobile phones, dozens of ATM cards (reports vary 46–49), 40 SIM cards, four laptops and bank passbooks now being forensically examined.
- Investigators say suspects recruited job seekers with work-from-home offers, collected passbooks, ATM cards, cheque books and SIMs, and then used those accounts to move funds into online betting apps such as Khiladi000003 and Anna555.
- Police identified the arrested men as residents of Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh and said the alleged recruiter, named Bhagwandas or Bhagwan Das, remains absconding as officers trace interstate links and bank-to-bank transfers.
- Authorities are focusing on device forensics and banking trails to quantify losses and to determine whether the ring is local or part of a wider interstate betting and fraud network, a probe that will affect victims whose accounts were misused.
