Overview
- Law enforcement arrested four people in connection with the case and recovered a combined total of 154 boxes of illicit liquor, including 1,118 bottles seized from a train consignment in Bengaluru; two vehicles were also seized and FIR No. 037/2026 was registered.
- The operation began after a Mehrauli patrol stopped a tempo on May 18 that was carrying 63 boxes of liquor, which led investigators to raids in Rajpur Khurd and to the Bengaluru parcel godown following a May 22 tip to excise and RPF officers.
- Police say the syndicate concealed bottles inside consignments falsely declared as commercial goods such as LED TVs and used private booking agencies plus railway parcel services to ship consignments from Delhi and Gurugram to Bengaluru.
- Authorities describe the stock as suspected counterfeit foreign and premium-brand spirits, raising excise, market and public‑health concerns, with Delhi valuing overall recoveries near Rs 1.5 crore and Bengaluru estimating the Yeshwanthpur haul at about Rs 66 lakh.
- Investigators are now tracing financial transactions, booking records and supplier links to identify other members of the network and to plug vulnerabilities in railway parcel and private‑booking channels.
