Police Arrest Jodhpur Jeweller in Mumbai Temple Theft With 3 Kg of Silver Recovered

Call-record analysis led police to Jodhpur, with the suspect on transit remand as probes test links to earlier temple thefts.

Overview

  • Mumbai’s LT Marg police identified the accused as 24-year-old Kapil Brijmohan Soni, a jeweller from the Bhadwasia Mahadev Mandir area of Jodhpur.
  • Around three kilograms of silver ornaments, including a silver shivling valued near Rs 3 lakh, were recovered after the items were allegedly buried, police said.
  • A team led by Assistant Police Inspector Bhandare with constables Kamble, Sanap and Wakchaure detained Soni in Jodhpur and brought him to Mumbai on transit remand.
  • Police say the arrest has helped connect at least half a dozen similar offences, including three earlier silver-theft cases registered under LT Marg jurisdiction.
  • Investigators cite call-detail records placing Soni in VP Road, Juhu, Andheri, DN Nagar and Bhoiwada, and they are coordinating with local stations to verify additional cases and any wider network.
