Police Arrest Eighth Suspect in San Jose Jewelry Store Takeover

Police describe an ongoing, multi-agency push to hold coordinated robbery crews accountable.

  • San Jose police identified 19-year-old Julian Gacutan of South San Francisco and arrested him in Oakland on Oct. 3 with assistance from San Ramon police.
  • Gacutan and seven previously arrested suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on robbery charges.
  • Investigators say more than 10 people rammed a vehicle into Kim Hung Jewelry on Sept. 5, brandished a gun, assaulted the 88-year-old owner, and fled with thousands of dollars in merchandise.
  • The shop owner suffered a stroke during the attack, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and has since been released.
  • Earlier raids across several Bay Area cities involved more than 100 officers and four SWAT teams, and police say additional participants are still being sought.
