Police Arrest 62-Year-Old Over Bengaluru Metro Bomb Threat Email

Investigators say the suspect, under treatment at Nimhans, sent the message over a personal grievance unconnected to Metro staff.

Overview

  • BMRCL received a threatening email at about 11:25 pm on November 13 from a Gmail account warning of a blast if the sender’s ex-wife was allegedly harassed.
  • The message described the sender as “terrorist-like” and hostile to Kannadigas and named the ex-wife as Padmini.
  • After verifying the email, a senior BMRCL official filed a complaint and Wilson Garden police registered an FIR for criminal intimidation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
  • Police identified and arrested the sender as Rajiv, 62, of Belthur, and said he has been undergoing treatment for mental illness at Nimhans.
  • Officers said the woman cited in the email is not a Metro employee, security checks at stations have been tightened, and the probe into the email’s origin continues.
