Police and Prosecutors Dismantle 'Los Orientales' Counterfeiting Ring

Prosecutors will forensically examine seized printing plates, devices and documents to map the group's production chain and prepare criminal charges.

Overview

  • Authorities carried out a coordinated megaoperativo that targeted 12 properties in Lima, Piura and Arequipa on Tuesday and led to the arrest of 12 suspected members of the group.
  • Officials say the network operated from a production hub in San Juan de Lurigancho and handled design, printing and finishing of fake bills for distribution to Lima, Piura and Arequipa.
  • Investigators seized roughly S/300,000 and US$3,000 in counterfeit notes along with metal plates, printed sheets, printers, inks and other printing supplies that indicate in‑house manufacture.
  • Police also confiscated 22 cellphones, storage media, transport receipts, bank cards, ledgers and a revolver, items prosecutors will use to trace distribution routes and assign roles.
  • The case is now with the Fiscalía especializada en criminalidad organizada, which has judicially authorized investigative measures and will use forensic analysis to determine charges and any wider links.
