Overview
- Polestar confirmed on Tuesday that the Polestar 4 SUV will go on sale from 2 September in a majority of its markets and will be manufactured at the Busan, South Korea plant.
- The SUV keeps the 4 coupé’s 400-volt electrical architecture and offers rear-motor WLTP range of up to about 630 km (391 miles) plus higher-output dual-motor variants that deliver roughly 544 hp.
- Early teaser images and company statements indicate the SUV adds a taller roofline, more storage versatility and a conventional rear window instead of the coupé’s camera-only rear view.
- The U.S. Department of Commerce declined to grant Polestar an authorization under the Connected Vehicle Rule, which means the 2027-model Polestar 4 SUV will not be sold in the United States.
- The launch forms part of Polestar’s wider model offensive and production shift away from China that could reduce EU and Canadian tariffs for European-bound cars and help the company respond to falling volumes and heavy discounting in some regions.
