Overview
- Mexico’s weather service says Cold Front 16 will be strengthened Wednesday and Thursday by polar maritime air from northwest Canada, boosting rainfall over the northeast, east and southeast with intense downpours in parts of Puebla, Veracruz and Oaxaca.
- A Norte event is forecast with gusts near 70–90 km/h and waves of 2–3 meters in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, with 40–60 km/h gusts and elevated surf expected along other Gulf and Pacific coasts including Tamaulipas, Veracruz and the Gulf of California.
- Temperatures are set to plunge with lows to around −10 °C in Chihuahua and Durango and frost from −5 to 0 °C in mountain zones of Baja California, Sonora, Zacatecas, State of Mexico, Tlaxcala and Puebla from midweek into Saturday.
- Despite the cold surge, the SMN warns of extreme heat on Wednesday with highs up to 40 °C across 12 states in the south and west, including Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, the Isthmus of Chiapas, Campeche and Yucatán, plus the south of Sonora and west of Durango.
- Baja California faces 20–30 km/h winds with 40–60 km/h gusts and 1.5–2.5 meter surf, while Sonora remains cold and dry for now with two additional fronts projected to approach on November 28 and December 1, according to state civil protection.
