Poland Meth Lab Raid, DEA Surge and Mexico Seizures Point to Coordinated Crackdown on Synthetic-Drug Networks

Investigators say the Polish case ties to a major North American cartel, with probes and prosecutions still underway.

Overview

  • Poland’s Central Bureau of Investigation Police raided a lab in Świecie on September 3, arresting three men — including two Mexicans — who allegedly supervised production and were linked to “one of the largest cartels in North America.”
  • Officers seized more than 300 liters of liquid meth and BMK plus nearly three tons of chemicals, which experts say could yield at least 330 kilograms of finished drug valued at a minimum of 6 million zlotys.
  • The suspects were presented to the National Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin on charges including participation in an organized criminal group and manufacturing significant quantities of drugs, and a three‑month pretrial detention request was filed.
  • The DEA reported a weeklong operation from August 25–29 that led to 617 arrests, 480 kg of fentanyl powder, 714,707 counterfeit pills, 2,209 kg of methamphetamine, 7,469 kg of cocaine, 16.55 kg of heroin, about $11.1 million in cash, $1.7 million in assets, and 420 firearms.
  • Mexican authorities dismantled two labs in Durango and seized about 21 tons of meth, while additional actions in Sinaloa, Hidalgo, and Baja California were reported under Operación Frontera Norte, and Polish police continue to probe possible related sites in Europe.
